SCHEDULED OCTOBER 22-26, 2008 - 8 Persons for Permit - This is 1 of 2 adventures offered in the Cades Cove area. This adventure, though rated moderate, is a 2 day backcountry stay, and 1 day in Cades Cove Campground. We will take you into the back country to enjoy the beautiful fall color, and be surrounded by the streams that feed into the Cades Cove area. On our way back into
the cove, we will stop and eat lunch at Abrams Falls.
Although Abrams Falls is only 20 feet high, the large volume of water rushing over falls more than makes up for its lack of height. The long, deep pool at its base is very picturesque. The waterfall and creek are named for Cherokee Chief Abram or Abraham whose village once stood several miles downstream.
All of the Great Smoky Mountain National park is a haven for white tailed deer, but there is no better place to view deer than Cades Cove. Smokies visitors commonly see two hundred deer if visiting the cove at sunrise. Depending on conditions, deer population in and around Cades Cove has reached as high as a thousand.
