We are privelaged to have former military, Eagle Scouts, we even have National Park Service Rangers available for assistance and/or guide leadership. Members of NorthFloridaExpeditions.com(NFE) are trained through years of experience in many varying conditions. By the end of 2008, 2 of our guides will have undergone intense glacier mountaineering training, as well as attained their Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification. That's the formal stuff. Here's what we can offer our clients... years of experience has led to benefits we extend to our clients by understanding the 5 essential categories of survival in the wilderness. These categories are known as the "5-W's". They are explained in detail below.

Weather - Understanding how to read incoming weather patterns, cloud formations, humidity and barometric weather data could be the difference between a great adventure, or endangering the lives of the crew. While mother nature can't be fully predictable, understanding it's patterns in certain geographical areas can make the difference. Regardless, being prepared while out is the key to survival and a great trip. Don't forget to check out our online weather station! Widow-Makers - When high-line winds threaten the ridge tops, limbs or even entire trees can come crashing down. If you select an area to set up your tent before thinking about whether of not it will be safe, you could be putting yourself at risk, along with your tent mate as well. Alway be aware of your surroundings. Weather in the mountains changes constantly, knowing this important "W" could save your life.

Wigglies - Snakes are typically a danger when navigating in the hotter, drier climates. While snakes are virtually everywhere, when navigating in the wilderness, one must always be aware of his/her surroundings and be able to read the danger signs around them. If you fear snakes, it is probably because you are unfamiliar with them or you have wrong information about them.

Water - When in the backcountry, water is an essential part of survival. Having the right gear to properly clean water from virtually any source is vitally important to your survival experience. There are many products available to the consumer ranging from purification tablets, to iodine, to full blown water purification devices. Here at NFE, we used PUR water filtration systems because of their ease of use and their build quality. They just work. Our filters remove the transmission of giardia, cyptosporidiosis and all other forms of protozoa commonly found in water sources in the backcountry. The water you get from our filters is better quality than the water you get out of your tap in the kitchen!

Wood - Where would we be without the ability to get heat we need whne we are cold, or the ability to cook food. Wood is an essential survival element due to it's survival versatitily; wood can be used to cook food, boil water, even the smoke can be used to clean your body of noxious odor and killing bacteria.
